Our Inspiration
Maria Montessori, Italy’s first female doctor, understood the inner nature of the child and developed a philosophy of education based on her observations of children and her training in psychology and medicine.
The way Montessori Weaver School is physically organized, and that which we consider to be important in our environment, are based on Dr. Montessori’s findings and are enhanced by our experiences and the cultural diversities of our families.
Dr. Montessori wrote about Sensitive Periods, a time when children move through distinct phases in which they were narrowly absorbed in a single aspect of their environment, when they repeat an activity again and again until one day the cycle was finished.
The teachers at MWS carefully observe the students, always respecting their concentration and focus, and make available the next work that the child needs to successfully continue through each sensitive period.
Dr. Montessori and others who studied children’s development created specifically designed materials that offered children a chance to manipulate, discover, create, make mistakes, and correct those mistakes independently.
MWS is well stocked with self-correcting materials that follow the teachings and understandings of Montessori. Each item is carefully chosen for its beauty, its sturdy design, and above all, its ability to provide for the children’s needs.
“All our handling of the child will bear fruit, not only at the moment, but in the adult they become.”
